Sir,
In reply to your letter of the 12th instant, I am directed by the Secretary of State to acquaint you, for the information of Lord John Russell, that as Mr. Brodersen, resident in the Colony of Hong Kong, appears to be the Hanoverian Consul in Hong Kong, the Governor has been instructed to report whether he is aware, or not, of any objection to his appointment as Hanoverian Consul in Hong Kong; but if he is not aware of any such objection, he has been instructed to recognize Mr. Brodersen provisionally in that capacity, until the arrival of the Exequatur.
